DADA Review

Teaching English online from the comfort of your home has become an excellent way to make a part-time income and for many, it is a full-time job. DADA (once called DADAABC) is one of the top companies that teachers can utilize to make money in this new and exciting field. Let’s take a closer look at this DADA Review.

I have already blogged exclusively about VIP Kid on this website but in this post, I will review DADA and what it could mean for you.

(** I no longer teach online ESL with this company, I teach exclusively on Outschool. It is a superior opportunity and if you want to teach online, check out my review here. )

What is DADA? Is it a scam?

DADA, much like VIP Kid, is an English tutoring platform that caters to Chinese students between the ages of 4 and 12. It offers students English lessons with an experienced teacher.

It works off a one-to-one, student to teacher, ratio. The lessons are taught through a virtual classroom that utilizes video, chat, and web-based lessons.

The company was founded in China in 2013. DADA is based out of Shanghai, China. The pay is relatively good for the industry and teachers to enjoy a flexible work schedule.

As to the question of whether it is a scam or not, this is a common question because so many scams exist on the internet. I am happy to report that DADA is a legitimate company where teachers can make a reliable income.

Currently, DADA serves over 50,000 students in China and has students in other parts of the world as well.

They have partnered with several reliable educational institutions such as Oxford University Press and Pearson Education to help formulate the curriculum they use for their students.

Many people have already started teaching for DADA and are making a reliable income from the comfort of their homes.

DADA is a legit work from home opportunity

Teachers that are experienced in English teach students English in half-hour sessions.

The teacher works from home and the student is being tutored from their home or wherever they have a reliable internet connection. The people who teach the lessons don’t have to be experienced teachers but must be proficient in English.

If you are interested in working for DADA, you must be proficient in English, have a computer, webcam, headset with a mic, and have a reliable internet connection. DADA encourages its teachers to utilize props for teaching lessons.

Hiring Process and Pay

The hiring process is relatively simple:

First, complete the online application

Next, prepare for and do an online interview with DADA

Next, you must complete some training

Finally, teach some mock lessons.

If you complete each step, you are hired and can start making money from the comfort of your home.

The application consists of providing your name, date of birth, gender, uploading a photo, information regarding any degrees you may hold, residence information, experience with English, your time zone, other occupations you may have or had, teaching certificate information, Chinese language competency if any (not required), an introduction video (about 30 seconds), and work availability.

DADA pays its teachers between $15 to $25 per hour. The pay is calculated hourly and is dependent on your experience and interview.

If you decide to interview with DADA, you need to be well-prepared and make sure that you give a great interview to get a higher pay rate. Pay raises are only offered on a 12-month basis.

DADA does pay for stand by time (which makes them unique in the industry). This means if you are scheduled to work 2 hours, but you have a 30-minute opening, you still get paid.

DADA pays out on the 15th of each month. The teachers are independent contractors, so the teacher is responsible for taxes.

Bonus pay is offered for a variety of things. You can be paid to refer to other teachers as well. A referral bonus of $130 is offered if you refer a successful teacher to DADA.

*As of Nov. 1, all teachers on the DADA platform, according to new Chinese regulations will be required to have a teaching certificate. This can be in the form of a TESOL / TEFL certificate which is easy to obtain. You can get your TESOL certification here for $19 from International Academy.

Tips for Getting Hired

  • Over prepare for the interview- it determines if you get the job and how much you’re starting pay rate will be.
  • Prepare to negotiate a higher rate
  • Utilize a referring teacher to help you prepare. Email me if you need one.
  • Learn about TPR 9total physical response) and how to use props.

What Others are saying

The reviews are mixed but there are more positive reviews than negative ones.

DADA teachers like:

  • having a schedule booked far in advance and DADA assists with getting the schedule filled for you
  • get paid when you wait to teach, standby time (it is a half rate)
  • classes are one-to-one: teacher to student ratio
  • being able to work with a variety of age groups.

DADA teachers don’t like

  • Early morning teaching hours if you live in North America
  • No restroom breaks
  • the strict schedule

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • DADA manages your schedule, so you don’t have to compete for bookings.
  • Lessons are prepared for you.
  • You don’t need to spend much money on resources to teach.
  • There is a very good teacher referral program.

Cons

  • There are some minimum educational requirements.
  • You get 2 minutes between classes,
  • It is still a job.

My Final Thoughts on DADA…

Teaching English online isn’t for everyone but it is a viable way to generate income from home. If you are interested in teaching online as a source of income DADA may be something that you should seriously consider.

It is a job but because of the flexibility of being able to work from home, it may be a financial solution you are looking for.

If you are interested in teaching online but DADA isn’t for you, I would encourage you to look at my other reviews of some other companies that offer the same solution such as VIP Kid or Magic Ears.

DADA is a good company but be sure to check out my favorite online platform to teach with and make money, click here.

  1. Thanks a lot for such an amazing review about DADA platform and explanation are given

I think the DADA platform is a good one to learn English even if you become a teacher if you know English well. My 9 year old child learned to speak English using the DADA platform.

Thanks again for this post. If you don’t mind, I will share this article on my social media account. Good luck!

  4. One thing that interests me a lot about DADA is the pay. Not very many online tutoring jobs pays that much and for this reason, I value this a lot. One thing is this, it is really a great means to earn through tutoring and seeing the offer presented here by Dada, I am setiously considering to submit an application here. Thank you so much for sharing this here. Thumbs up

  5. DADA is a great option for extra money. I know two people who have started learning Chinese children English and are really pleased. It’s a great thing to pay DADA a half-rate for stand by time. The only problem with this job may be the time difference. But if you are an early riser and do not mind getting up early and working, then this is a great opportunity to make money.

  6. Working from home is quite cool because of the convenience you get from it. Teaching is one very interesting thing for me and adding teaching English language to kids makes it a very reliable deal for me. I am impressed with the wat DADA operates and with proper preparation i believe should get the chances. How about the time fixing for teaching due to the difference in time range?

  7. I considered DADA when I first heard about it, but quickly saw it is not an option for me. Their requirements are quiet strict – you have to have a teaching certificate and proof documents for teaching experiences. I don’t have any of those requirements, that is why, even though it is a great opportunity to earn extra income working from home, not something for me.

But I think for teachers DADA is an incredible platform to earn side money.

  8. Oh wow, I didn’t know about this site. I was just on Frelancer working on some writing and wondering what else I could do. The only thing about this job is the time zones. I would be awake at 3am and sleeping at noon. How funny. I wonder how it would be since I don’t know their language  though.

The hiring process is very easy. But you need to be very prepared for the interview and the tips you gave for getting hired is very helpful.

  10. It’s good to know that Dada has students all over the world. I hope this trend continues as it would allow for better working hours for many teachers. I definitely agree that Dada is legit, and if you’re in there can be one of the better platforms. The only downfall is that I know someone who applied and never heard back, their application just said “in process”. All in all I feel like Dada is a solid company and I will definitely reference your post to those looking for a great ESL company with which to work. Thanks for a great post!
